Nonviolent Communication changed the way millions of people talk about their feelings and needs. It’s a genuine breakthrough, and I am so glad I’ve found it, studied it, and used it with my clients. After 20 years of teaching it and using it, I’ve found that something is still missing. Maybe you have too?
Are you:
- A couple who does everything right in NVC and still feels the passion draining out of your relationship?
- A neurodivergent person who describes your real and important experience and is told “that’s not a feeling”?
- Someone who’s gotten so good at being responsible for your feelings and needs that you’ve accidentally gotten good at keeping other’s from feeling your heart?
Beyond NVC is what I’ve been building in response to all of that.
It’s a 30-day challenge that honors everything NVC got right and then keeps going. We’ll value feelings with nuances like “I feel like a kitchen drawer that’s off the track. I can’t push it in or pull it out. I know I’m about to smash my finger when it finally moves.” We’ll explore the relational nature of emotions which NVC sometimes glosses over. We’ll learn what it takes to listen well, not just speak well. And we’ll dare to venture into the aliveness, passion, and full contact of being human that most of us are quietly starving for.
